Dr Beggs graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1990 and worked briefly in Smithton, Tasmania, before moving to Warrnambool in 1992. Here he established himself as a partner at the Warrnambool Veterinary Clinic for 14 years, before taking on the dual roles of senior veterinarian and IT manager at the clinic in 2008.

During this time Dr Beggs completed a Master of Veterinary Studies in Dairy Cattle Medicine and Production, and worked across a wide range of areas including mixed species clinical work, and research and consultancy in dairy herd health. Dr Beggs has used his expertise in software programming to develop decision support software that is now widely used across the farming industry.

His Dairy Data program is used by about 400 farmers and most large dairy veterinary practices in Victoria. His Bull Reporter and BIOCHECK® software are well known to ACV members. He is the current convenor of the AVA National conference. He is also an ssociate Editor of the Australian Veterinary Journal, and has just completed his PhD and is President of Mpower, a non- government, not-for-profit organisation which provides disability related services in south-west Victoria.
